Here at KINLY, we are all about the real, true connections between women, and that’s why we love spending time with our favorite female duos to show us how they really live in the brand. Next up in our #CaughtinKINLY series, we’ve got two female entrepreneurs who schooled us in how to not only have an incredibly successful startup but maintain a serious friendship while doing it. We cannot stress how much these two are all the #goals.

From their first meeting trying to hail cabs into Boston during their freshman year at Harvard to opening a store on buzzy Bleecker Street for their beloved shoe line Margaux, these two have managed the tricky balance of work and play. Sarah says, “We quickly became inseparable best friends, then roommates, and ultimately partners in Margaux four years later. It's hard to believe we've known each other for nearly ten years now; time really does fly when you're having fun.”

Alexa points to the business as having strengthened their bond outside the office: “Working together for four years has strengthened our friendship in ways we never could have imagined - and by now, it is more of a sisterhood than a friendship,” she says. “We share a brain (which often means showing up to meetings in the exact same outfit - accessories and all), and know that no matter what, at the end of the day, we would put each other first before anything else. I've learned a tremendous amount from Sarah - both as a partner and as a friend, and I don't know where I'd be without her.”

We spent the day with them starting at their New York flagship store, located at 387 Bleecker Street, which opened less than a year ago. “We fell in love with Bleecker Street's historic charm, and lineup of exciting young designers and brands,” says Alexa. From there, we followed them back to their Chelsea studio, which is flooded with warm light from the floor-to-ceiling windows. Join along and read even more from this dynamic duo, including tips on how to make a business trip bearable (hint: work with your BFF).

“We've made it a tradition when we're on the road to pick a fabulous spot to go for dinner, just the two of us, one night amidst the chaos of travel. It's simple but so much fun - and we have a long list of memorable dinner dates around the world together as a result.” -Alexa

  • “You have to celebrate the little wins along the way, surround yourself with people who give you energy, and always stay focused.” - Sarah

  • “Our office is a loft-like space on a quiet street, just a quick walk from the Bleecker store. We moved in just a few months ago, and are putting the finishing touches on the space, which has (among many charms) these gorgeous old windows that stretch from floor to ceiling and let tons of natural light in.” -Alexa

  • “We're different in so many ways—Alexa's the extrovert to my introvert; I'm obsessed with details, she with the brand vision—but have the most remarkable partnership that's grounded in our long history and friendship.” - Sarah
